Video of 2001 World Championships 200 meters

September 12, 2007 by Jimson Lee · 2 Comments

There was a lot of buzz from the photo finish image of the 2001 World Championships 200 meters where someone asked me to post the video.

In this video, Kenteris is in 7th or 8th position at 100 meters, but it doesn’t matter, as he holds his form (and speed endurance!) well over the last 50 meters. Everyone else is struggling, trying to get in the medals, and he made it look so easy. I won’t get into the allegations or accusations with Kenteris, as those can be found on other websites.

His chance to repeat as the 200 meter winner in front of his hometown Greece never materialized for reasons still under investigation, and I was 100% certain he would be the one to light the flame. POP QUIZ: Who lit the torch at these games? In 2001, Kenteris proved he was no fluke by winning the 200 meters at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton. [...]

  2. [...] In our judicial system, we are innocent until proven guilty. Sadly, our sport has become the other way around. You are presumed guilty if you suddenly break 10 seconds in a 100 meters. Or win an Olympic Gold medal in the 200 meters coming out of nowhere, then repeat again the following year at the World Championships. [...]
