Coaching Books by John Wooden

November 25, 2007 by Jimson Lee

One of my favorite all time coaches isn’t a Track and Field coach.

It’s former UCLA Bruins Basketball coach John Wooden.

Sure, he coached at an era when 3 point lines, the 45-35-22 second shot clock, dunking, huge egos and outrageous salaries were non-existent.

I personally liked his philosophy because he never emphasized winning. Just execution, excellence, and team play; the end result will take care of itself.

His Pyramid of Success is quite detailed and complex, but he explains it in simple plain English. The next time you visit the varsity weight room at UCLA, be sure to look up on the walls and read quotes from his Pyramid of Success.

Here are 2 books in my collection which I pick up and read every once in a while to remind myself if I am doing the right thing.
