Ben Johnson, Bruny Surin 1992 Canadian Olympic Trials
January 17, 2008 by Jimson Lee
We all know the saga from the post-1988 Seoul Olympics.
At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Ben Johnson would not qualify after the 100 meter semi-finals, and Bruny went on to finish 4th after leading the race for 60 meters.
A reader who wishes to remain anonymous sent me the link to this video. This one is a classic from the Olympic Trials. The quality is poor, supposedly video captured from a VHS cassette, and has degraded substantially over the last 16 years. This video also includes the 100 meters semi-final of Ben’s race in the pouring rain.
Notable athletes turned coaches/directors include Glenroy Gilbert (Lane 8) and Peter Ogilvie (Lane 7)
I remember this race clearly as if it was yesterday as it was held in Montreal.
