Butch Reynolds 400 meter 1996 Atlanta Grand Prix
February 26, 2008 by Jimson Lee
The 1996 Atlanta Track and Field Grand Prix was held two months prior to the Summer Olympics as a “warm up” to the USATF Olympic Trials.
Two of the favorites in this race was Butch Reynolds & Deon Minor won by Reynolds in 44.33. It also had Briton’s Iwan Thomas and Roger Black.
Here’s a brief recap of Butch Reynold’s Olympic journey:
- 1988 Olympics - 400 meter Silver medal and 4×400 meter Gold medal (click on the links for the videos)
- 1992 Olympics Trials - 5th place and selected to the 4×400 meter relay pool but did not run most likely of the controversy of the IAAF “tainted” rule.
- 1996 - 43.91 and 2nd in Olympic Trials, but injured at the Olympic Games.
