Tyler Christopher, Johan Wissman Clash in Semi-Finals
March 8, 2008 by Jimson Lee
Canada’s Tyler Christopher and Sweden’s Johan Wissman were drawn the same heat in the first of two 400m semi-finals at the IAAF Indoor Championships in Valencia. Wissman’s health was questionable after withdrawing from Sweden’s Indoor Nationals last weekend due to fever.
As expected, Christopher was the first to the break for the pole in Lane 5, and kept the advantage throughout the race winning his heat easily in 46.57.
Wissman, in Lane 6, struggled over the final 75 meters to keep his composure and finished 2nd in a very respectable 46.86.
Australian Sean Wroe closed hard with a personal best of 47.13 to steal the third qualifying spot from Russian Denis Alekseyev 47.18.
Top 3 in each semi-final qualifies to the Final.
Unlike the USATF indoor 400 meters, there is no “B” final, or winner based on combined times from 2 sections.
The video may be available at a later date.
