4×400 meter Relay in Beijing
July 20, 2008 by Jimson Lee
On Friday, I wrote about the 4×100 meter Relay in Beijing. Here are the stats for the 4×400 meter Relay in Beijing.
The Mens side is no surprise. It takes 4 guys an average of 45 seconds to break 3 minutes. 45.75 from the lead-off leg, then 3 guys running 44.75 with a running start.
But to run 2:56, Lee Evans once quoted, “That’s a lot of low 44’s”
And where is Nigeria? They had been a force in recent 4×400m Olympics with a silver in Sydney 2000 and a bronze in Athens 2004.
On the women’s side, the Americans will probably win barring an injury to Sanya Richards and Allison Felix.
Host country China squeaks in with a 16th place time by 0.03 seconds! Sorry, Italy!
This is from the latest IAAF qualifiers (PDF file).
