Without Ginobili, Argentina earns bronze
With star Manu Ginobili on the bench in street clothes with an injury, Argentina turned to Carlos Delfino — using his 20 points to spark an 87-75 win against Lithuania in the men’s bronze medal match on Day 16.

U.S. women have winning four-mula
With its third straight win over Australia in the Olympic gold medal game, the U.S. became the first women’s team in any sport to win four straight Olympic gold medals after a 92-65 win on Day 15.

U.S.-born Becky Hammon scored 22 points to help Russia beat host China 94-81 on Day 15 for Russia’s second consecutive bronze medal. As in 2004, the U.S. and Australia took gold and silver, respectively.

Barely used in the 2004 Olympics, LeBron James has established himself four years later as the leader of one of the greatest teams in United States Olympic history. Coaches are impressed by his growth.

Team USA cleared the semifinal hurdle that had haunted the squad since 2004, advancing to Sunday’s gold medal final with a 101-81 victory against defending Olympic champion Argentina on Day 14.

2006 world champion Spain has given itslef a shot to follow that with Olympic gold, by virtue of a 91-86 semifinal win against Lithuania on Day 14. Pau Gasol led the way for Spain with 19 points.

For the third straight Olympics, the U.S. and Australia meet in the women’s basketball gold medal game. The U.S. won both times, and is looking for its fourth straight gold medal. (Now streaming LIVE)

Lisa Leslie could become the first female in Olympic history with four consecutive gold medals in the same event. First, she must go through Australia and WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson (10 a.m. ET streamed LIVE).

Team USA turned up the defense when it was needed most, holding Russia to 28.5 percent shooting in the second half on the way to a 67-52 semifinal victory — clinching a berth in a fourth straight gold medal game.

Aussies’ road to gold runs through U.S. again
Australia, silver medalists in 2000 and 2004, advanced to a third straight final against Team USA on Day 13 with a 90-56 win against China. Dating back to 1996, the Aussies are 26-5 overall, but 0-4 against the U.S.
