@Adarian – good point, and let’s not forget how many times Asafa ran those 9.7 in less than ideal sprinting conditions… cold!

Peaking is a bad word. I think what happens is that when we train an athlete to peak versus to perform coaches end up limiting performance. I know A lot of coaches that set goals for athletes, and then coaches them to reached that goal, one problem they may be much better than the goal.

I hope that Usain Bolt has opened coaches eyes to train athletes to perform at a high level versus peaking
Even Asafa Powell, and the Russian female pole vaulter.

Usain ran a world record in May and then another one in August.
Asafa may not do well in games but he had a good year. 9.72 the second fastest 100m ever. He also had a few 9.8 along the way.
And the russian female pole vaulter jumpers a world record everytime she vaults.
