Remember Asafa Powell’s First of Three 9.77?
June 18, 2009 by Jimson Lee
Usain Bolt’s 9.77 in Ostrava (+2.1 wind) today reminded me of Asafa Powell’s 9.77. Actually, he ran it THREE times.
So last Sunday marks the 4th anniversary of the first of three 9.77 performances set by Asafa Powell.
This picture was originally published by USA today on June 15, 2005.

Click here for the video of the first 10 flat (hand timed) performance by Armin Hary back in 1960.
Note the 9.99 set by Jim Hines and Ronnie Ray Smith on June 20, 1968. Ronnie Ray Smith was part of Bud Winter’s legendary Speed City group.
I hate to imagine where Usain’s 9.69 gets extrapolated (or 9.52 if he didn’t celebrate with his chest thump). Probably next to the ads on the right on this page!
Where will the WR be in 2010? London 2012? or even in the Year 2525?
