July 31, 2009 by Jimson Lee
When Speedendurance covered Matt Bogdanowicz’s World Record attempts, a lot of you were wondering who set the equivalent WR for a women?
As you know, my good friend Matt is also a sub-Masters middle distance runner who set WR for 1 minute pull-ups (46), 1 hour pull-ups (522), 30 minute pull-ups (433 set in 2006) but […]

Fundraising for Athletes - and Crossing the Line
July 28, 2009 by Jimson Lee
Reading the story of Kiwi’s Logan Campbell two weeks ago brought back memories of Leilani Rios in 1999-2000. I was living and working in California at the time, and she was big news everywhere.
Leilani Rios was the Cal State Fullerton cross country runner who was kicked off the team for working as an exotic dancer […]

July 27, 2009 by Jimson Lee
I like to save money whenever I can, and spend it on other important things such as food, travel, and Championship entry fees.
So when I came across this tip about Amazon, I couldn’t resist.
I talked about the Amazon Kindle in a previous post, as it’s the best device to read several books concurrently especially when […]

Usain Bolt at the Aviva London Grand Prix Video
How fast will Usain Bolt run?
His past performances in Manchester, Toronto, Lausanne and Paris were all in less than ideal conditions for world records, notably, rain and headwind.
It’s pretty scary to think a 9.79 and 19.59 were set in non-perfect conditions. And his reaction times were […]
Rome Golden Gala - 100 meter Videos Heats and Finals
July 23, 2009 by Jimson Lee
I purposely sat around the 30 meter mark to get a better view of the 100 meter starts. I knew I could get the official video footage later with a view from the finish line. It was also closer to the Women’s Pole Vault and Men’s Javelin.
Getting a different vantage point is an interesting […]

July 21, 2009 by Jimson Lee
I’m in a bit of a rut.
I am currently north of Rome where half my friends are AC Roma (or just Roma) and the other half are S.S. Lazio (or just Lazio) fans of the Italian Football (Soccer) league.
Roma has gained a lot of popularity because in the past 3 years, as they lost to […]

Last week, Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Burnaby, BC is the first Canadian university to be admitted to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). For the past 35 years, it competed under the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
As much as I would have preferred “Div I” status, it will compete under Division II. The […]

Usain Bolt in Paris Video
How fast will Usain Bolt run? That’s the consensus on the Letsrun and Track and Field News message boards (and other message boards that I don’t bother checking).
What is odd is no Americans were listed in the Start List. I thought they were a sprint powerhouse?
His press conference is […]
Rome Olympic Stadium – BASF Conica not Mondo
July 17, 2009 by Jimson Lee
Remember those BASF commercials a few years back?

Their slogan goes like this:
We don’t make a lot of products you buy, We don’t make a lot of products you buy BETTER.
If you are an audiophile like me, you think immediately […]
Michael Johnson’s 3 Point Plan to Save Athletics
July 16, 2009 by Jimson Lee
There was some Interesting commentary from Superman (a.k.a. Michael Johnson) on Telegraph.co.uk last week. Let’s take a closer look at his suggestions:
My three-point plan would be to shorten the competitions and limit the events to only those that most people, in particular young people, are interested in.
Focus on the pure competition between the athletes […]

There’s an alarming trend of Coaches who do not like the conventional double leg squats with the bar behind your head.
But for those who like to do the double-legged squats, it is recommended to do “front squats” with the bar on your front shoulders and collar bone, because if you fail at a given weight, […]

I am currently in Rome so when the 2009 IAAF Golden League meet passed though town, I just had to go.

Dan Pfaff, Lee Evans in the News
July 10, 2009 by Jimson Lee
The news of Dan Pfaff and Derek Evely leaving for the UK invoked some thoughts and discussion.
The UK is doing something right. They are luring quality coaches from other countries with proper salaries and benefits into senior management positions.
Unfortunately, it’s leaving a void in the Canadian coaching system, especially at the High Performance Sprint Centre.
We […]
Energy Drinks vs. Sports Drinks – Know Thy Difference
July 9, 2009 by Jimson Lee
Now I’m getting worried.
When an eight year old become sick from the unpleasant after effects from energy drinks such as Red Bull, I have to ask one thing:
Where are heck are the parents?
Seriously, there’s a huge difference in Gatorade, or Tiger Gatorade Focus, and Red Bull or Monster drinks.
Honestly, until kids reach High School, […]
