STREND Fitness Challenge – September 12, 2009

posted on August 10, 2009

If you are interested in trying out the STREND fitness challenge, there is one on Saturday September 12, 2009 in Livermore, California.  If you can run 5K after a series of 5 maximal exercises, then this event is for you.

Weigh-ins start at 7:45 to 8:30 AM followed by a quick orientation and the start of event.

The venue is Fitness Together at 101 East Vineyard Ave (Suite 111), Livermore, California, 94551.

Livermore is a pleasant drive from the Bay Area or even Sacramento.  You can get cheap airfares to Sacramento with Southwest Airlines if you buy your tickets 21 days in advance.

The Registration fee is $40, and for ages 15-18 with consent, the fee is $30.

For more information, call (925) 461-6379 and ask for Rich Cunha.

What the heck is STREND?

This is a 6 event decathlon that combines strength and endurance.  Each event is timed 3 minutes apart, so the 3 mile run starts exactly 15 minutes from the start of the bench press.

Scoring is the total repetitions of 5 exercises divided by run time in minutes (the 6th and final event):

STREND Events

  1. Bench press  (Bodyweight for Men, 60% of bodyweight for Women)
  2. Pull ups
  3. Shoulder press (50% Bodyweight for Men, 30% of bodyweight for Women)
  4. Close grip chins
  5. Dips
  6. 3 mile run

Good Luck to all participants!
