Chariots on Fire - Eric Liddell ran a 9.7 second 100
June 6, 2008 by Jimson Lee
In 1924, Eric Liddell ran 9.7 seconds for the 100 - 100 yards that is, not meters, which is equivalent to 91.44 meters.
Yes, it’s hard to believe we have only increased (or decreased) 8.56 meters or 28 feet - 1 inch in the last 84 years! (Thanks to Matt Bogdanowicz for pointing this out)
Who […]

Building a Better Runner by RunningDVDs .com
January 5, 2008 by Jimson Lee
Introduction
I’ve reviewed my fair share of training videos in the past and was very happy to see this DVD didn’t focus on selling a gadget, or belong to the “answer to success is core stability” camp. Visions of Paul Chek come to mind.
I’m a big fan of going back to basics and keeping things […]

The secret is to maximize your time in every nook and corner.. I call these “stolen moments”.
For instance, my drive to the local track is 30 minutes long. I maximize that by reading “books on tape”. […]
Coaching Books by John Wooden
November 25, 2007 by Jimson Lee
One of my favorite all time coaches isn’t a Track and Field coach.
It’s former UCLA Bruins Basketball coach John Wooden.
Sure, he coached at an era when 3 point lines, the 45-35-22 second shot clock, dunking, huge egos and outrageous salaries were non-existent.
I personally liked his philosophy because he never emphasized winning. […]

I am going to put a few arguments to rest.
When did they stop running the 440 yard dash?
In 1976, almost all Imperial (English) distances were abolished for track record purposes. The only exception was the Mile run because of its tradition and popularity. The mile (or 1609 meters) starting line is 9 meters back […]
