The 2010 Mexico mini-Olympics Summer Games
October 17, 2008 by Jimson Lee
On September 16, 1810, the people of Mexico declared war vs. the Spanish authorities. This was the start of the Mexican War of Independence (1810 - 1821).
To celebrate the 200th anniversary of this event, Mexico is planning to stage a “mini-version” of the Olympics in 2010 to help celebrate the country’s bi-centennial.

Over the past year, we’ve seen a lot of talk of elite middle distance athletes such as Alan Webb with the Nike Zoom Victory + Track and Field shoes as well as the Nike Zoom Victory Spikes.
These spikes are ideal for track distances 800 meters and up, and will be available October 1, 2008.

Weight wise, 100 grams has always been the Holy Grail for a track spike. When Michael Johnson came to Nike, designers did everything possible to shave weight from his spike to make it light […]
Is Bicarbonate of Soda a Performance-Enhancing Drug?
August 17, 2008 by Jimson Lee
In July, I wrote about Bicarbonate Loading Raises Ethical Issues As Performance-Enhancing Aid.
Once again, every second article from the Olympics is about drugs or health benefits of Ergogenic aids. Otherwise, it’s the Michael Phelps show!
Is popping a few Tums considered illegal before your 400 or 800 meters ? How about a mountain of baking […]
Gary Reed 1:43.68 - 800 meter National Record
July 29, 2008 by Jimson Lee
In May, I made this bold prediction about Gary Reed possibly running 1:43-mid to lower his personal best and National record:
Let’s take Canada’s Gary Reed for example. His PB for a 400m is 46.72 from 2003. His PB for 800m is 1:43.93 from that magic Rieti meet in Italy 2006. Take his […]
Sport Songs to Alan Webb: Hold Your Head Up
July 7, 2008 by Jimson Lee
After watching the US Trials on NBC, one of the sport songs that came to mind was a song by Rod Argent, a former Zombie with hit songs “She’s Not There”, “Tell Her No”, and “Time of the Season”.
If I was Casey Kasem, I would dedicate the song “Hold Your Head Up” by the artist […]

4×200 meters - 3 turn Stagger or 1 turn Stagger?
June 18, 2008 by Jimson Lee
I am so used to watching a College or High school 4×200 meters using a 3 turn Stagger that when I saw this video, I had to point out how they used a 1 turn Stagger with World class sprinters!
This is a video of Michael Johnson’s last European race, a 4×200m in Berlin 2001.
In 2001, […]

Who Needs Rabbits? Video of Filbert Bayi 1500m WR
April 22, 2008 by Jimson Lee
My all time favorite race without rabbits is the 1974 Commonwealth Games 1500 meters in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Filbert Bayi’s set a world record of 3.32.2 beating New Zealand’s John Walker in the process. Bayi opened up a first lap 54.9 and ran from start to finish in first place, with Walker closing in the […]

April 13, 2008 by Jimson Lee
I love it when distance runners wake up and smell the coffee.

Galen Rupp, on leave from the Oregon track team while preparing his bid for the U.S. Olympic team in the 10,000 meters, plans to go to Orlando, Fla., to spend quality time with sprint […]

This video is a great collection of all the Men’s Track and Field World Records (excludes distances over 5000 meters or Multis).

This list has a lot of outstanding performances… let me […]

Athletes who specialize in the 400 meters can be the cornerstone of a successful track program. They can provide good coverage in the 100, 200, 400, 4 x 100, 4 x 200, and 4 x 400 […]
USA 1980 Olympians finally get “Congressional” Gold Medals
December 23, 2007 by Jimson Lee
The spring of 1980 is still vivid in my memory. It was the year of my high school graduation, and hometown hero Bruce Roberts of Chateauguay, Quebec, would be going to Moscow for the Olympics for the 800 meters.
I would have loved to see him battle it out with Steve Ovett and Sebastian Coe.
I […]
Sebastian Coe Videos - Born to Run
November 26, 2007 by Jimson Lee
Many thanks to Albert Caruana from CrossCountryExpress for this link.
These videos are the Sebastian Coe “Born to Run” series.
Next to the 400 meters, the 800 meters is probably the toughest event. I really can’t imagine running a 400 meters in sub 50, and hearing the bell lap to run another lap.
We all remember the […]

October 2, 2007 by Jimson Lee
Guest Blogger Dave Elger from the Okinawa Running Club in Okinawa, Japan submitted this article. Yesterday’s article discussed how to run a marathon under 3:30
In my late 30s, I was still running decent times and breaking 16 minutes for 5 kilometers, but had not been doing any serious marathon training. As my […]
