These are some of the highlights from the USATF National Podium Education Project in Las Vegas from Dec 11-15, 2007.
Anytime you have John Smith presenting, you can feel the passion in his voice. This man loves Track and Field.
Add ex-athlete turned coach Jon Drummond to the mix, and you have an educational and comical time. He is, after all, the clown prince of Track and Field. Our sport needs more “personalities”… I recall Asafa Powell and Justin Gatlin at a press conference in Eugene, Oregon for the Prefontaine meet. Yes, the same meet where they both ran separate heats of the 100 meters timed finals. Maybe they were nervous? I don’t know them personally but it had the same tone as my lecture on Integrating Information Technology and Forensic Polymerase Chain Reaction DNA.
The University of Las Vegas Nevada (UNLV) campus is on the landing path for the McCarran airport in Las Vegas. Every five minutes or so a plane would land making the presenter inaudible, so the video quality is “as is”. Plus, it was very windy.
In this video, Jon Drummond is demonstrating some drills outlined by John Smith. Take a look at the “pizza boxes” drills. I prefer to call them the “delivering a wedding cake” drills!
If you enjoyed this short video, you’ll certainly enjoy the 7 part Eurosport Series Inside the Training and Inside the Competition.
Great review I was there and I learned so much. It was exciting being a part of a great American tradition even if it has a few dings in the exterior.
I love your site!!
