It’s hard to believe they paid 250K for him to race. But they still need to find 7 other men to race against him.
That means paying some cash for guys who can run 10.10 or faster.
What are they going to do? Get some locals who run 10.30 or 10.60?
Here is their press release:
PRESS RELEASE – On June 11th, the world’s eyes will be on the University of Toronto’s Varsity Centre as it hosts a world-class track and field meet.
This landmark event signals Varsity Stadium’s return to prominence in the world of track and field. Not since the 1960s, when Bill Crothers defeated world champion Peter Snell in the 880-yard race and David Bailey broke the four-minute mile barrier on Canadian soil, has Varsity Stadium seen such internationally-significant action.
Triple Olympic gold medalist and world record-holder Usain Bolt will headline the Festival of Excellence. Known as the world’s fastest human, Bolt will compete in the marquee event of the evening, the men’s 100 metre sprint.
The Festival of Excellence celebrates U of T’s playground-to-podium philosophy. In partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion and the Run Like Lightning program, this event will also showcase Ontario elementary, high school and Canadian intercollegiate athletes throughout the day, giving youth a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share the spotlight with some of the world’s top athletic talent.
Join us on June 11th as we usher in a new era of high performance sport and athlete development at the University of Toronto!

Great stuff for Canada but that means they only have 1 month to get the roster in line. Which world class sprinters will be available? I think 250 is an excellent price to get the fastest guy ever in his prime. Too bad they don’t dish out more cash for track and field as all of them are underpaid compared to what other professional athletes receive every year. Hopefully, whoever they get to run in the 100 will give him something to think about. I give the promoters credit for anteing up for this one.
@Fred – I am told the remaining tickets range in price from $110.00 to $500.00 (plus applicable fees). They’re being sold through some outfit called “TicketBreak.com”
That’s close to prize fighting money. If he ever runs in the L.A. area, I’ll be the first in line to buy a ticket.
