Anytime you have John Smith presenting, you can feel the passion in his voice. This man loves Track and Field.

Add ex-athlete turned coach Jon Drummond to the mix, and you have an educational and comical time. He is, after all, the clown prince of Track and Field.  Our sport needs more “personalities”…

The University of Las Vegas Nevada (UNLV) campus is on the landing path for the McCarran airport in Las Vegas. Every five minutes or so a plane would land making Coach Smith inaudible, so the video and audio quality is “as is”. Plus, it was very windy.

If you want to see other sprint drills, see Gerard Mach’s article and Clyde Hart videos respectively.

Speed Drills with John Smith

In this video, Jon Drummond is demonstrating some drills outlined by John Smith.

Take a look at the “pizza boxes” drills and tell me what you think.

We use modifications of these drills all the time. A number of different hand positions can be used to stimluate the body to deal with slight overloads. Very good to keep pushing the kids forward as they improve their mechanics.
