In this short YouTube video on SpeedEndurance TV, I explain the quickest and easiest way to calm pre-race jitters or nervousness.

This tip isn’t only for track, as it’s great for any stressful situations, whether it’s work, home, or exams!

I do this when I’m stuck in traffic!  And believe me, Rome has its fair share of traffic and road closures!

I go through 4 different variations, and explain the differences.

Give it a try…. it quick, fast and effective.

Oh, did I mention it was free?

Free is good.

1975 I studied TM Transcendental Mediation, Deep breathing & mantra was key to the discipline. Also mental rehearsal on what you want to achieve. See what you want to do , fill in the details, every phase of the race, see yourself winning !!! This helps give you a mental clock. Adrenaline slowed it down in my head (ever been in a car accident and things slow down?)
Nervous before a race is good just know your animal instinct are wired where two emotions release Adrenaline; anger or fear. Pick one ! sometimes it picks you !

    Jimson,
I don’t what I’ve did wrong to you…and why are you ignoring me :)…s Sorry please do something with this format. The only videos on the net without sound for me are yours. How can this be possible. Are U using a Mac~!? or a “row” format!? But even so, youtube is encoding your all uploaded videos…I’ve installed almost all video and audio-codecs in the galaxy since out last conversation… Is very frustrating!

…Anyway, I don’t get a clue about what Jimson is talking in this episode but I’ve read your comments – tips are tips and any mistake would fixed up later by the athlete himself/herself…But you need to be quit careful when recommending techniques which are inducing “altered state of consciousness” – this needs full control of these techniques, it works differently from people to people…
    I’m talking here about transcendental meditation…Schultz method…”autogen” training… breathing exercises… sophrology,…etc…

The risks are not very big; just sleepiness before the match/competition or loss of the reaction and impulse in neuromuscular excitability… The athlete needs more time to get connected with everything… May be it should be done at minimum 3-4 h before the “whistle blow”.

Don’t have a technique; actually I have o technique… a kind of mixed stuff from all I’ve read…I’ve tried it on myself as athlete and later tried to propose it to my players. But as personal instrument or individual practice not as collective one…so I can’t tell that it really works…
In rugby getting a little bit nervous and emotive before the game could be useful; it’s different from player to player.
Let’s say that 2 or 3 from 10 (take it as percentage) thanked me so I had a kind of feed-back… I never could measure changing, never modeled it and I haven’t the patience to see how some indicators could modify after exercises – I think HR could be one.

Meditation & competitive sports, one must have single mindedness on the event …to settle down pre race nerves ,alert mind , connect to Adrenalin performance …very simple for 100m (passion for 9.Seconds )

@Steve, thanks for the input. This is coming from several years of actual research on the playing field.

@OKtav, thanks for sharing. Everyone should try their own method to see what works best for them.
