Here is a great short video of Adam Gemili giving speed tips out of the blocks.
Everything he says is spot on, so listen up!
A few comments, of course…
One, when people say to stay low, I tell them if you start in a crouch position, exploding out at 45 degrees, then the horizontal forces moving towards vertical forces with each step will result in “being low”. So I don’t train them to stay low, it’s just something that happens.
Second, I prefer to tell my sprinters to REACT to the gun, not LISTEN to it.
Third, I teach my athletes to take deep inhale as your hips rise when the starter says SET. Then when the gun goes off, you exhale as you push out of the blocks with all your might.
In this video on YouTube, Jaguar Academy of Sport Ambassador and Adam Gemili shares his top tips on getting speed out of the blocks.
