Why Karsten Warholm’s 45.94 400mH WR is my Highlight of 2021

December 28, 2021 by Jimson Lee Leave a Comment

"He didn't break the world record. He murdered it" Those are the famous words from Ron Pickering on Butch Reynolds' 400m WR in 1988. If you haven't seen it, it's on YouTube. And that quote is so fitting for my highlight of 2021. Here's why. People love World Records. Period. Especially … [Read more...] about Why Karsten Warholm’s 45.94 400mH WR is my Highlight of 2021

Ultimate Runner Challenge: Single day 10K, 400m, 100m, Mile, Marathon

Many years ago, back in the 1980s, I read an article on Runners World about this single day challenge. Or The Runner magazine, which I thought was the better magazine. The Ultimate Runner consisted of a 10K road race in the early morning, followed by 3 track events mid-day (400m, 100m and Mile), … [Read more...] about Ultimate Runner Challenge: Single day 10K, 400m, 100m, Mile, Marathon

Was Carl Lewis Right about the Long Jump being Pathetic?

March 16, 2016 by Jimson Lee Leave a Comment

When someone criticises a sport when it's at the lowest point in popularity, usually it's a sign of seeking attention. Let's take a look at what Carl Lewis quoted last week about the state of the Long Jump (before we throw him under the bus): Photo credits: Getty Images “[The Long Jump … [Read more...] about Was Carl Lewis Right about the Long Jump being Pathetic?

The Death of 100m 200m 400m 800m Ratios

September 16, 2015 by Jimson Lee Leave a Comment

I have used ratios quite a bit over my coaching career. For example, the classic "doubled your 200m time plus 4 seconds equal 400m potential" Some say that should be 3.5 seconds. Or, "your best 100m time doubled +/- 0.20 seconds equals your 200m potential" Or even, "your 400m time … [Read more...] about The Death of 100m 200m 400m 800m Ratios

One thing is certain, you must have decent 200m speed if you plan on racing at the World or Olympic level.
