Love him or hate him, drugs or no drugs, Michael Johnson is an excellent Track pundit on BBC. In a recent interview, he says he tries not to be annoying like the other Track analysts. Agreed.
In this video on YouTube, he gives some advice on how to run the 400 meters, followed by Kirani James’ Commonwealth 400m gold winning run.
But he nails it when he says the race is won or lost in the call room. You’ve done all the training. You’ve done the 10 day taper. You are injury free. The last thing to do is get the space between your ears ready to win. Let’s face it, the 400 meters hurts. It’s not Crossfit, either.
I think the video and commentary is spot on, and worth 11 minutes of your time, if you are a Michael Johnson fan. Otherwise, wait until tomorrow for a fresh article from me.
Also, here is another video of Michael Johnson talking about 400 meter strategy pre-London 2012 with Iwan Thomas.
