Yes, the 200-400 double is possible! They listened to us!
Without having to contest more than one discipline on any given day, the TRADITIONAL doubles are now possible:
- 100m and 200m (Usain Bolt, and many others)
- 200m and 400m (Valerie Brisco Hooks, Marie-Josee Perec, and Michael Johnson)
- 800m and 1500m (Kelly Holmes)
- 1500m and 5000m (Paavo Nurmi, El Guerrouj)
- 5000m and 10,000m (Mo Farah)
- Long jump and Triple jump*

*At the 2012 London Olympics, American Will Claye first won the bronze medal in long jump, then followed up by winning the silver medal in triple jump five days later.
But we’ll never see another 400-800 double in a very long time! Right Alberto?
The 200-400 Double
At least today, each race is 3 rounds, instead of the old days of Michael Johnson with 4 rounds each! One can argue with world class super-human speed, and speed endurance, you can easily jog through the First Round!
So this makes sense, and if you aren’t doubling, you get a full day rest before the finals:
- FRI 4x400m MIXED Relay (2 rounds) ?
- SAT – rest
- SUN (AM) 400 R1
- MON 200 R1
- TUE 200 SF
- WED 400 SF
- THU 200 Final
- FRI 400 Final
- SAT 4×400 SF?
- SUN 4×400 Finals?
Also interesting is the 4×400 Mixed is on Day 1, both Heats & Finals, adding to the mix!
