With the recent Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and London 2012 Summer Olympics under our belt, what have we learned?
Every host nation wants to win the most medals possible, that’s obvious.
We don’t want the embarrassment of 1976 Montreal Olympics where the host country won 0 gold medals. (Sadly, that jinx happened again at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Doh!)
More recently, we are seeing UK Athletics undergoing a massive restructuring post-London with new management.
So this video is quite timely and fitting as we are 3.5 years away from Rio!
For past Fireside chats, I asked Derek Hansen about the Sprint Coach, Strength Coach & Physical Therapist Triad as well as How to Pick a Good Sprint Coach.
I also asked the questions Weight lifting before or after track practice and How to Get a Job in Coaching.
Owning the Podium – Achieving Host Nation Olympic Success
Is 4 years to late to plan for an increased medal haul, hence the name “own the podium”?
In this video, you’ll hear me rant about how 8 years is the desired time frame. It starts at the grassroots level, with a lot of support, especially financial!
