Last year (Jan 2012), just before LaShawn Merritt changed coaches from Dwayne Miller to Loren Seagrave, I had the chance to interview him on Skype.
You can watch that video here.
Fast forward to March 2014, and LaShawn Merritt is in Australia for the Sydney Track Classic meet. He clocked 20.42 (+0.2) for 200m by the way.
Mike Hurst, well known Journalist and 400m coach (but not in that order?) of Maree Holland and Darren Clark had a chance to catch up with LaShawn.
You can read my Friday Five Interview with Mike Hurst (2013) here, as I asked about the controversial Concurrent Theory or Concurrent Design training program.
Interview with LaShawn Merritt with Mike Hurst
In this 35 minute podcast, we get some some really good insight on LaShawn’s training, both past and present. He also speaks about what it will take to finally break 43 seconds for the 400 meters World Record.
It should also be noted that LaShawn and Michael Johnson are the ONLY 2 men to go sub-20 and sub-44 for both 200m and 400m!
You might be impressed with all the little details that goes into running and racing 400 meters at the elite level.
Thank you Mike for sharing this podcast, and making it publicly available. Sharing is caring!
