What the heck are Sirtuins?
Anti-Ageing, or trying to slow down the ageing process, is the holy grail for Masters Athletes. And for most people.
Most of us will spend the last 5 years of our lives in disease or sickness. Whether that is at age 60, 70, 80, 90 or even 100 is up to you.
It all started by a book review called Lifespan: Why We Age – and Why We Don’t Have To, which lead to the topic of Sirtuins on our weekly Zoom Recovery & Regeneration Coaching & Therapists group call.
Sirtuins are a family of signaling proteins involved in metabolic regulation. You’ve probably heard of resveratrol, found in food include the skin of grapes, blueberries, raspberries, and mulberries. As well as on the shelf of your supplements store.

In the video below, Nikos Apostolopoulos gives a 30 minute overview on Sirtuins, followed by our usual Q&A discussion. Of most importance are the seven Sirtuins for seven deadly diseases of ageing.
So it does make me wonder:
- which disease is affecting the general population the most? in your circle of friends and family? and YOU?
- which disease are Masters Athletes less affected?
- which disease has the greatest risk for COVID patients?
Sirtuins – Video & Discussion
Sirtuins is a very complex discussion, and I think Nikos does an excellent job in breaking it down. Next step is to apply this to your daily habits, so you can live longer. And run in the M100 or W100 age category with me!
