Where were you on December 8, 1980?
I was studying for my College finals when I heard the news about John Lennon.
Some dates you will always remember. July 20, 1969. September 11, 2001. September 24, 1988. December 26, 2004.
Did I say September 24, 1988?
With the 20th anniversary of the 1988 Seoul 100 meter final well behind us, this 50 minute documentary from the UK in 2002 explores the key events leading up to Seoul, the subsequent Dublin Inquiry in 1989 and contributions from former teammates, coaches, family members and the man himself.
The irony of the 1988 year was it was not the perfect season. The previous year, 1987, was considered a better season based on his triple periodization successes with improvements along each phase as well as staying injury free. In some eyes, 1987 was a coaching dream come true.
In 1988 he had 2 injuries (in February and May) along with a temporary coaching change. 1988 also had all the media distractions that came from winning the 1987 World Championships and defeating Carl Lewis along the way.
The year 2028 will be the 20th anniversary of the Usian Bolt and Michael Phelps show. Then again, it will be the 40th anniversary of the 1988 Ben Johnson scandal.
At the time of this writing, Ben Johnson will be publishing his long awaited autobiography called Seoul to Soul.
In the meantime, here are links to the Ben Johnson – The 1988 Lost Seoul series, divided up into 10 minute segments.
UPDATE: Sorry, the video is no longer on YouTube.
the ‘lost soul series’ were no longer on the net…. where can i get it?
