Last year, I reviewed the DVD Building a Better Runner by RunningDVDs.com. This training DVD was produced by Coach Jay Johnson, the middle distance coach at the University of Colorado, and Mike Smith, the head cross country coach and middle distance coach at Kansas State University.
This is a great product as it doesn’t focus on selling a gadget or over promote core stability and balance training. It just focuses on building a better runner.
The DVD includes iPod ready MP4 file formats, so I downloaded them and now I’m ready to go to passport office and motor vehicle branch and wait in line for hours!
I have 3 copies to give away to celebrate USA Thanksgiving next Thursday, November 26.
Contest Rules: All you have to do to enter is comment in the bottom of this post.
The comment can explain why you want the DVD, or simply why you should be thankful on Thanksgiving. Or just drop by and say hello.
The contest will end Friday Nov 27, 2009 at 9pm Pacific and the winner will be drawn Monday morning Nov 30.
I will pick 3 readers at Random using Random.org.
More information can be found at RunningDVDs.com
Here’s to hoping that the Gods of randomness smile down upon me! Great site, btw – chock full of fantastic information.
I am incredibly thankful for my situation. I have an incredibly supportive wife who puts up with my long hours of coaching. I am thankful for my 3 children who unfortunately will be leaving the house in the next 3+ years. Where does the time go? I have a fun job teaching middle school PE and coaching both field hockey and track and field. And I am thankful for a new opportunity coaching sprinters at our local high school. Which leads into why I would love the dvd’s. I want all the info possible in teaching and coaching these new athletes.
Happy Thanksgiving to you!
Would love to win this
Jimson:
I would love one of the DVD’s on building a better runner as I cannot afford to add to my resource library in my current situation. Even though I am unemployed, I am thankful for the time I have to write my next book. Anytime I can learn even one thing from an article or DVD, etc. I will take that opportunity. “He who dares to teach must never cease to learn as you teach best what you most need to learn”.
It would be nice to have another great resource to use. Thanks for the site and the opportunity.
I would love the DVD so that I can learn from it and in return help people become better runners.
I wouldn’t say that I’m more deserving than others. However I just completed my first ever coaching cross country and found it very interesting as well as challenging. Certainly a tool such as this DVD would support my further involvement in the sport.
As far as being thankful during this period – I’ve been blessed with good health along with loving family and appreciative friends. However I probably speak for many in giving thanks to our service men and women around the world that have made perhaps the ultimate sacrifice in honor of those things most deem important.
Thanks to you and Speedendurance.com as well.
I would love to win one and while I’m no more deserving than anyone else in particular, I’m very thankful that I found this sport as a kid and having met loads of great people when I competed still love athletics enough to coach many great kids on the track. When you get up in the morning and look forward to going to the track or gym to coach you’ve got to be thankful and I thank the sport for giving me Monday’s after a track meet when I can begin to work on the outcomes of the meet on the weekend with the kids!
Good luck all, and
Hello Jimson,
Love your “give-away” entry contest. Is this a warm-up to a future one where you will award some lucky contestant with a brand new pair of Nike’s or even better: a brand new pair of Usain Bolt Puma’s? If I am luck enough to be one of the three winners, please donate my DVD to someone who is coaching other runners.
About Thanksgiving:
I am thankful that I am healthy enough to hit the world-class track 5 or 6 times a week at Santa Monica College where the weather is ridiculously perfect every morning. What more could I ask for? Best of luck to all contestants.
@Fred – I’m thinking of giving away a pair of Olympic Tickets, since i don’t plan on being back for Vancouver 2010. It’s still in the works.
I’m currently training for my first marathon in between two half marathons, and believe this DVD would be extremely beneficial to both my short and long-term running goals. I’m truly thankful to be running a Turkey Trot 5K this year on Thanksgiving after getting rid of 106 pounds since June, 2008. I’m now a runner for life!
Love the site. Thankful for another great xc down, track to come, lovely life, lovely wife.
I hope that I am chosen but would entering more than one comment be considered cheating?
Would be nice to have, I’m always looking for ways to improve my training.
Hi sport friends,
hello from Germany. I’m a sprinter and love to read your articles to learn about improvements for all kinds of my training.
We don’t have Thanksgiving here but when I lived in the US, I liked that families have an occasion to get together.
Keep on running!
Michael
I really hope I win it.
Would love to have this. im trying to do big things this season in sprints need more workouts. love this site i go on it everyday. thanks
Building runners in general is something that should be attempted by every teacher of physical education. Youth should be given the opportunity to move efficiently through the world. What a gift!
I should be thankful on thanksgiving for the gift of life for all man kind, and for the opportunity of everlasting life in Salvation. Its great to be here with each and ever person, and people should start acknowledging the graces we have of time/space/feeling/breathing/seeing/hearing/pleasure- not everyone has all of these gifts that most of us do. I think we should be thankful for that. We also should be thankful for the challenges we endure and triumph over in Track and Field. Our sport may be more difficult to train for than almost any other sport, but thats what makes it more glorious. I would like the DVD too. Take care everyone.
All the best.

As a high school track coach and also a competetive half miler, I would love to win this DVD and help pass on the knowledge to a new generation of runners as well as take my own training to the next level. I am thankful that I have the physical gifts and health to compete and also that I ahve been given the opportunity to pass on my passion and knowledge of the this great sport to young runners.
If its free, its for me! Thank you JL for the opportunity!
Hi, I’m thankful I can still run. I’d love to be selected to receive the DVD.
Would love a copy, please!
I’ve told the student-athletes at the new (we’re in year 4 now) HS where I coach that very little of what they do is original Coach Scott thinking. That I pick the brains of the best in the business, and then do my best to adapt it to their ability level. With 3 new assistant coaches this year, this would be a great tool to continue the tradition! Thankful? That I have the opportunity to pass along the love of T&F that I got from my family, the opportunity to teach these young men and women to expect to be capable of anything, and the fact that I got to learn that from my grandfather first-hand!
I am grateful for the thought and time you’ve put into the speed endurance blog.
For me it has been a helpful starting point for putting together the knowledge and experience that I need to help my athletes stay healthy and achieve their goals.
I’m so thankful for my 4 kids and wife. They support me in all I do. My kids are involved in Xcountry, basketball, football, baseball and yes, track. I help coach the Jr. HIgh and HS track programs. I truly love my family and thoroughly enjoy coaching kids. I also enjoy this site and the various/detailed training information contained.
Thanks SPEEDENDURANCE. Fred.
Is it to late to get in on the DVD???? I think I’m “Tardy for the Party” LOL
Hey, thanks ! but I don’t want your DVD’s. Everybody can buy them for a fair price and no need to beg…
I’ve never won anything but this would be a great start! My son has the chance to do something special in track and this could help him reach his dreams!
