Who said Michael Johnson’s 19.32 World Record would last 50 years?
Try 12 years.
Usain Bolt shocked the world today with his 200m Olympic Gold Medal and World Record with a 19.30 performance. This time, there was no show boating, no pre-celebration BEFORE the finish line.
8 races. 6 days. 2 Olympic Gold medals. 2 World Records. And the Olympics aren’t over yet. Yes, a lightening Bolt can strike twice in the same Olympics.
Five Three men broke 20 seconds, even with a slight headwind of -0.9m/s at sea level. No * asterisk required here.
The initial order was Bolt, Churandy Martina, Wallace Spearmon, Shawn Crawford, and Walter Dix. Both Martina and Spearmon were DQ’ed. Crawford finished fourth second in 19.96 and Dix finished fifth third in 19.98
It makes you wonder who will run the 4×100 meter relay for Jamaica, and what will be the order?
The video of this 19.30 Olympic World Record is posted below.
When Cheers Turned to Tears
You have to feel for both Churandy Martina and Wallace Spearmon. They were both disqualified for running out of their lane or touching the lane. They didn’t gain any advantage from this infraction, but those are the rules.
UPDATE: YouTube and NBC Olympics are cracking down on illegal copies of this broadcast. Therefore, check back on this site in a few hours for the latest Usain Bolt 200m 19.30 Olympic World Record Video.
